Book 2 Post 1 - My Life On The Road

I chose My Life On The Road by Gloria Steinem for a variety of reasons but mainly because Gloria has spent the majority of her life traveling. I have always loved traveling and seeing different places because I believe it gives you a great perspective. Sports has consumed so much of my life that I have not had as much time as I would like to get out and travel more. However, when I was 14 I took a trip with my family to Sayulita which is a village along the Pacific Coast of Mexico. To say I loved it there would be completely underselling it. The laid back vibe, delicious food, and the generous locals are what made this trip so special. Sometimes when you stay in an area for so long, you begin to think that is the only way people live. However, traveling gives you the perspective to see that there are so many amazing people in this world that live completely different than you.

I am inspired by Gloria Steinem and how she has used a variety of destinations to formulate her way of thinking and living. I feel that one who lives like this is very credible due to the many unique experiences she has been apart of. One experience, in particular, was her attendance at the march in Washington in 1963 where she listened to Martin Luther King Jr. This was just one of the many historic events she has made an appearance at.

Gloria is quoted saying "If you find yourself drawn to an event against all logic, go." This is a very simple quote but it resonated deeply with me. Oftentimes, people see issues whether they are related to politics, sports, etc, and are not willing to take initiative themselves to make a change. What makes our country beautiful is the freedom to pursue whatever you believe in. Gloria Steinem fully takes advantage of this by spending her life not wishing for things to happen but making them happen through her persistent actions.
