World we dare to imagine pt.1
I want to acknowledge that I am aware of the many pressing issues in our world. I wish there was a button we could press to make things like world hunger, climate change, rape, and other major issues disappear. I think there are plenty of amazing movements in place that will help with these issues that I hope to one day be apart of. However, I want to talk about something a little different. If I could change anything in this world it would be to eliminate societal norms and live in a world where we focus on loving yourself and others, empathy, and passion. Way too often, people including myself look at what others are doing to get confirmation on what they are doing. Although this may seem like a small issue, I believe it is what is tearing our society apart. Social media is one of the worst contributing factors to this issue. We see things on different platforms of people, celebrities, professional athletes living this luxurious life. When in reality, some of them are most likely hurting mentally and spiritually. If I could start today in an attempt to make the world a better place, I would eliminate the bad use of social media and preach to people that passion is the driving factor in life. I would tell people to find things they are passionate about and pursue them to the best of their ability. This sounds so cliche but it is something I have become very passionate about and believe in.
Suicide rates are at an all-time high right now because depression and anxiety are so prevalent. Currently, there are a lot of movements to prevent all of this but I truly believe that can only do so much. It is so engraved in our society at this point to meet societal standards when in reality what does that even mean? Personally, I believe the ultimate dream is pursuing eternal happiness and becoming a master of your own mind. By doing this, people would accomplish more that way and efficiently use their time. I think we sometimes forget how powerful a muscle our brain is and when exercised and used correctly, it can do incredible things for you.
I just finished a book called "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" and without a doubt, it is my all-time favorite book. The teachings in the book are something I believe every person should read and apply to their life. It preaches goal setting, everyday rituals, and mastering your mind. If everybody in our world were able to apply these teachings in this book, I truly believe we would see incredible things in our world.
So I guess my first step would be to share this book with everybody I encountered but also preach the idea of doing what makes you happy instead of pursuing something that pleases others.
I loved your take Ethan, suicide is a universal problem and a silent killer. Since so many people have suicidal thoughts and feel uncomfortable coming out to talk to people it is important to go to them and let them know they have resources they can go to.
